Dave Alexander, a longtime member of Davy Jones' touring band, has been named to handle the music at the upcoming Davy Jones tribute June 15 in Beavertown, Pa. that will feature a statue unveiled in his honor, Michael Shoenfelt, one of the organizers told us by email Saturday.
“He has worked with the Monkees and was part of Davy's band for many years,” he said. “We are planning on making the focus of the event about Davy and his life in Beavertown. (Davy Jones' daughters) have expressed their support of the event and plan on attending.”
The memory of Jones, who lived in Beavertown for over 20 years, according to Pennlive.com, will be celebrated at the ceremony. It will be held at Rescue Hose Company 20, 222 Sassafras Ave., in Beavertown. Admission is free.
The itinerary for the event is still being discussed, Schoenfelt said.
“At this point, we have a general outline,” he said. “I would like to focus this event more on the music with the climax of the event being the unveiling of the life size statue being done by my friend Chuck LaMark of Altoona, PA. He is working hard to get the statue completed by the event.”
Shoenfelt has a page on Facebook for the event. Updates can also be found at Cindy Bryant's Monkees Fan Club Purple Flower Gang Facebook page.
