The Omaha Royals ended a terrible month with an impressive three game winning streak that improved their record for the month to 5-18.
After opening the series against PCL American South leading Albuquerque with a 4-2 loss, the Royals looked like the first place team with a 10-5 victory, and back to back shutouts by Lenny DiNardo and Kyle Davies.
Royal Performances: Kyle Davies was sent to AAA after an uneven season in Kansas City so far, and has been as good as one could expect for Omaha. His six innings of shutout ball brings his total to 14 innings in Omaha without allowing a run.
Irving Falu continued his hot streak on Tuesday, going three for five with a run scored. Falu is hitting .356 over his last 10 games, raising his average to .272 on the season.
Scott Thorman has easily been the most consistent power hitter for the Royals since coming over from Oklahoma City, and last night was no exception, as he hit his 14th homer of the season, and 13th as a Royal. In the series against the Isotopes, Thorman hit .471 with two home runs and four runs batted in.
Court Jesters: It’s hard to find someone who performed poorly in a 9-0 win, but J.R. House will fill the bill for our purposes. House went just 1 for 5, and after spending the early part of the season looking like the best bet to get recalled any day, has hit just .255 over his last 10.
Omaha opens July locked in a battle of last place teams. The Royals sit 12.5 games out of first in the PCL American North, while the New Orleans Zephyrs are just 3.5 games behind Albuquerque in the PCL American South, yet still on the bottom of their division.
Omaha is the rare hotter team, having won four of their last six, while New Orleans has lost four of their last five.
Sidney Ponson (0-1, 3.00) will deal for the Royals against the Zephyrs’ Rick Vandenhurk (3-1, 3.31)
