Also arrested was a juvenile whose case has been referred to juvenile services.
According to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office, in March, McDowell and the juvenile beat the pet duck until it died after the duck attacked a four-year-old child. The teen videoed the morbid scene which occurred at the 10000 block of Hampton Road.
McDowell was released on bond and is scheduled for a hearing at the Lexington District Court on May 19.
Just one week ago, a Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. man was arrested and charged with beating a duck to death in a shopping center parking lot.
"Doesn't matter if an animal is a duck or a dog," explained Jesse Conover of Boynton Beach, Fla. "Anyone beating an animal is guilty of animal cruelty. It makes all of us sick to think what else people like this would do to humans if they think they have the right to beat any living creature to death."
