If you have an interest in the paranormal, you have probably heard a story or two about the phenomenon of the Black Eyed Kids. What are these strange beings that appear and try to gain access to your home of space? What causes their frightening appearance? The dark black appearance of the eyes, with no white to be seen. The feelings of foreboding…more and more people are reporting encounters with these beings. But are they the only odd and frightening creatures to be encountered? Are the encounters becoming more frequent? And what do they want?
David Weatherly is a paranormal investigator, cryptozoologist, Ufologist and adventurer at large. He is a writer for Intrepid Magazine and the author “The Black Eyed Children”. In his book on the terrifying dark eyed children, David explored tales of witnesses who have claimed to have been visited by these beings. The BEK’s seem to follow a pattern of repeating the same phrases over and over in a monotone voice, asking to be let inside. They have pale or pasty looking skin and always seem to be dressed in a grungy sort of way.
While the encounters with the BEK’s seem to be increasing…so have encounters and sighting of other kinds of creatures. David has explored the world of the strange for over 35 years, around the world. In his travels he has investigated and has many stories of visitors from other dimensions, planets and portholes. His new book “Strange Intruders” offers up the Djinn, Pukwudgies, Shadow People, the Grinning Man, the infamous Slenderman and more. David goes into the folklore, legends and beliefs surrounding each one of these Strange Intruders
According to David many of these creatures have actually been around for a very long time. David spoke with Anthony Agate and Luci Leibfried of the Blogtalk radio show, Paranormal Review Radio about his book and why the stories are not something new.
“I think you have a lot of factors when you’re looking at these kinds of stories. First of all, these things are the types of creatures you are talking about are embedded in folklore for thousands of years. You can go to any culture around the world and you’ll find usually variations of those same stories. A lot people associate the little people or the fairy people strictly with Ireland or parts of Europe, but in reality, you actually find those all over the world. A lot of people aren't aware of how many stories and even contemporary accounts of little people there are in the Americas.” David said. “A lot of these tales are very universal.”
So where have these creatures come from? David has a theory about that. Could they be visitors from another dimension, entering our world through some kind of porthole? Could they be moving back and forth at will for whatever reason?
David believes there is a dramatic increase in the appearances of the weird and sinister creatures. He admits that the internet has helped many to share the encounters. He says “The paranormal is part of pop culture now” where years ago if you told someone you were involved in the paranormal you’d be” pretty much guaranteed an evening alone”. It has become much easier for people to share stories. The accounts in the book range from “bumps in the night” to “mind blowing”. In talking to others in the field, David has found that the numbers have increased across the board. “We’re seeing some pretty interesting times on the planet.”
