David Tutera, the famed event planner and his ex-husband came up with an unorthodox custody arrangement. The couple had twins together and the custody agreement consists of each one of the men taking one twin to raise.
Tutera will be the one raising his biological daughter, Cielo while Jurica will raise his biological son Cedric who is also Cielo’s fraternal twin. The two men were in the middle of breaking up while their surrogate was pregnant with the twins. She gave birth on June 19.
Tutera described that time as “very confusing” and went on to explain that their situation wasn’t perfect. He stated, “The divorce happened so quickly after the [embryo] transfer was successful that there wasn’t time to mourn the loss of raising a second child. I was mourning the loss of my relationship.”
Earlier this year, while the couple were divorcing there were accusations of prostitution and addiction flying from both sides. David Tutera insists that it is important to him that his daughter and her brother have a relationship even though Tutera lives in Los Angeles and Jurica is in Connecticut.
Tutera said, “We can’t pretend like this doesn’t exist for them, that’s completely selfish. It is our responsibility to do the right thing for or children.”
The host of My Fair Wedding went on to say, “We’ve exchanged photos. The mudslinging has ended. And I hope that one day, Ryan and I will be friends.”
As far as raising his daughter , Cielo Tutera said, “I’ll make mistakes, but my job for the rest of her life is to protect her and support her. We’re a team.”
“I think we all envision ourselves married and in a relationship. But I’m an older dad and there is something very enlightening about being a single father.”
What do you think about their decision to split up the twins?
