David Slade set to pilot THE DEMETER

David Slade is no stranger to the vampire genre, actually his name is synonymous with them of late mainly because hit last two films were about the bloodsuckers.

Sure, one of them was a TWILIGHT movie but it did make a butt Eload of money.  The other of course was 30 DAYS OF NIGHT which I personally like a whole bunch.  Seems Mr. Slade is done with the "tweenie" horror is as going to be heading back to the hard core stuff.

Horror quiz time, how many of you know what THE DEMETR is?

(insert Jeopardy music here)

THE DEMETER was the ship that DRACULA used to get himself from Transylvania to London in Bram Stoker's classic original story.  There has been a film in the works for about 10 years now going by the name THE :LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER.  Ben Kingsley has been attached for quite some time and a handful of directors have been attached and dropped through the years but there has been some kind of problem with financing along the way and things have just never got moving.

Having SLADE officially attached should hopefully solve any financing woes so maybe, just maybe this one can finally make that final step and gear on up.

Here's what is known about the project so far:

Demeter was the name of the ship that transported Dracula from Transylvania to London in Bram Stoker's classic tale. In that novel, it washes up on the shores of England, tattered and broken, with one raving mad survivor. THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER places the voyage center stage in a tale that is reminiscent of the first movie in the Alien franchise, in which a crew is slaughtered one-by-one by a mysterious passenger.

No official "start up" date yet but hopefully it will set sail soon.
