David R. Ellis dies in South Africa preparing for next film project

David R. Ellis has died in South Africa at the age of 60. The "Snakes on a Plane" director was 60 years old. He passed away on Jan. 7, 2013. His lifeless body was discovered in a hotel room in Johannesburg. His cause of death has not yet been released.

According to Yahoo! News, Ellis is best known for "Snakes on a Plane," a film that fared better in Internet hype than it did in the theater. The 2006 movie had an estimated budget of $33,000,000 and it has grossed $62,022,014 worldwide, according to IMDb.

Ellis was in South Africa preparing to direct his next project, "Kite," an adaptation of the 1998 anime flick of the same name, which was scheduled to be filmed in Johannesburg in January 2013. "Kite" is about a young girl who became a hitman after both her parents were brutally murdered. The original anime version of "Kite" was directed by Yasuomi Umetsu, according to IMDb. In December 2012, it was announced that "Snakes on a Plane" star Samuel L. Jackson had signed on to the live-action remake of "Kite" where he would be working with director David R. Ellis again.

David R. Ellis is dead at the age of 60. May he rest in peace.
