We lost another director of a favorite film of mine.
David R. Ellis (“Snakes on a Plane”), according to Cinema Blend, passed away in South Africa yesterday at the age of 60.
The cause of his death is still unknown, but he was in South Africa preparing his new film, a live action adaptation of the Japanese anime “Kite” starring Samuel L. Jackson.
The man had his start in the stunt department of many major films including “Smokey and the Bandit.”
He eventually began his directorial career with “Homeward Bound 2: Lost in San Francisco” and went on to make some successful horror films like the cult hit “Snakes on a Plane” and “Final Destination 2.”
While he might not have been considered one of the highest caliber directors he certainly enjoyed what he did, and he had a devoted following (like myself).
He will be missed.
