David Olney releases digital download of "These Boots Are Made for Walking"

Americana Music Pioneer David Olney proves everything old is new again with the digital release of "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" (written by Lee Hazlewood).  The single is available at digital retailers and davidolney.com in addition to his current EP, DAVID OLNEY PRESENTS FILM NOIR.

Meanwhile, David has garnered a "Best American Roots Music Video" nomination from the Alternative Roots' 1st Annual Readers Choice Awards. Contemporary and artistic, the clip is a re-creation of the original song and video made famous by Nancy Sinatra 45 years ago this year.

Cutting edge at the time with its use of color and go-go dancers both Sinatra's and Olney's versions share a focus on the performer while the song is supported by visual simplicity, mod colors and fun dance moves.  You can check out Olney's video here or on his website.

Director Brian Smith witnessed his first David Olney indelible live show in Los Angeles several years ago and made it his mission to expose him to a wider audience.  Although the song is not part of Olney's repertoire, Smith envisioned David belting it out with new meaning and set out to assemble an all-star supporting cast to create a visually and technically stunning presentation.

Smith says, "What is super-cool about David's version is how a 60s mod-classic has been totally reinvented as a sort of raw roadhouse standard.  That stylistic and emotional distance is very important I believe to make the whole effort work -- as the rough musical edges allow our updated/anachronistic visual spin on the original video serve as a sly counterpoint.  Plus David's voice and attitude are just freaking amazing."

Ever the consummate performer, Olney is on the road supporting his new CD, DAVID OLNEY PRESENTS: FILM NOIR

While musically different from the edgy folk/blues people associate with him, the songs are still populated with colorful Olney-esque characters and storytelling. “This record is kind of ‘50s/’60s detective music," explains Olney. There’s a certain darkness without being bleak as in the smoky 3AM jazz of “Frank is Gone”.  The “Blue Moon Hotel” is peopled with characters who have to disappear in a hurry, while the dry-humored mugger’s anthem “$20 Serenade” will have your toe tapping even as the robber takes your shoes. Then there is enough love lost in “The Blues Don’t Care” and “Sunset On Sunset Boulevard” to fill an all-night diner full of broken hearts.
