Over the course of the past 12 years, "The Late Show with David Letterman" has started a rather hilarious tradition that involves throwing a football at a meatball at the top of the tree, a story from comedian Jay Thomas, and a performance from singer Darlene Love.
The good news? It's happening all over again. Thomas will attempt to knock off the meatball, and he will then go on to tell (yet again) the story about driving around former "Lone Ranger" Clayton Moore.
As to why this tradition exists, executive producer Rob Burnett said that it really just feels natural:
“The best traditions are the ones you can’t plan ... These happened very organically on our show and it is very silly and very goofy. It makes sense with the sensibility of the Late Show to be part of our tradition.”
Do you look forward to all of this every year now?
