Late Show host David Letterman says he was the victim of a $2 million extortion attempt related to his sexual relationships with staffers on his popular CBS talk show.
During Thursday night's taping, Letterman revealed to the audience that he was approached by a person who had knowledge of his sexual transgressions with members of his staff. This person then allegedly threatened Letterman, stating the funnyman would need to pay $2 million to keep him or her quiet.
After Letterman approached a Manhattan district attorney, an investigation began which led to an arrest earlier today.
In his grand-jury testimony, Letterman did admit to having sexual relationships with other women.
"My response to that is, yes I have," he told his studio audience. "Would it be embarrassing if it were made public? Perhaps." However, he added: "I need to certainly protect my family."
Letterman got into hot water earlier this year, where he made a joke about Sarah Palin's daughter that generated outrage from women across America and even helped spark the website FireDavidLetterman.com.
