David Letterman shocked viewers last night by admitting he was the victim of an extortion plot from a CBS producer and acknowledging that he had affairs with women on his staff.
Letterman told his audience that he had testifed before the grand jury yesterday.
"I have had sex with women who work on this show," he stated on air. "Would it be embarassing if it were made public? Perhaps it would."
The producer, Robert Joel "Joe" Halderman, 51, of Norwalk, Connecticut pled guilty earlier today to first-degree grand larceny.
Halderman demanded $2 million from Letterman or else he would reveal Letterman's affairs with staffers.
Letterman married his longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko in March of 2009. The couple have been together since 1986 and have a son, Harry, 5.
UPDATE: CBS has pulled all the videos from YouTube showing Letterman's full extortion confession yet they have not uploaded their own video of the confession. The following is a short snippet of Letterman's confession along with the arrest details from CBS.

I don't understand the big deal. Was this consensual sex? If it was, there is no story here except the illegal extortion attempt by the producer.

conotated jokes especially towards Sarah Palin's daughters.

People have nothing better to do than to cast the first stone. Consensual sex (fornication) is wonderful even if the close minded disagree. Appears that the blackmailer was the jealous and greedy one. Haven't heard anyone say anything about him. David stood up and didn't run. That takes quite a person. Three cheers for you David.

People saying that there is no story here since the sex was consensual are forgetting that Letterman has a wife and a 5 year old son. This is not a case of "fornication" but of adultery. The fact that Letterman also took one of his lovers on a vacation with his wife and son as well is deplorable.
