Brazilian custody case update: David Goldman picked up his son, Sean this morning in front of the courthouse in Brazil. US congressman, Chris Smith said that they are on a chartered plane and on their way back to the US. They left Rio de Janeiro three hours after the boy’s grandmother turned Sean over to David.
Sean cried as he was led through journalists in front of the consulate.
Sean Goldman, 9, went to Rio in 2004 with his mother who illegally took him. Sean’s mother, Bruna Bianchi died last year during childbirth. The mother’s family filed a stay in Rio stating that it wouldn’t be healthy for Sean to be uprooted from his life in Rio, Brazil. And David Goldman has been unable to get to his son.
Goldman was told last week by a lower court in Brazil that he could pick up his 9-year-old son and bring him back to the United States to New Jersey. Goldman traveled to Brazil last Thursday, but when he arrived was told that a Federal Court overruled the lower court’s decision, and that he couldn’t have his son. The higher court ruled late Tuesday that his son will be returned.
People around the US have been rallying for David to bring Sean back to New Jersey. Now that they are on the plane on the way back to the US, David can breathe a sigh of relief.

It's about time!!
It is sad that our government officials don't take more decisive action in cases like this. They don't get involved until the MEDIA gives the case heavy attention. THEN, the politicians jump in...
Why did his step father have to parade him down the street like that? That just proves that he and his family aren't fit to even visit him in the US. I hope the kid heals from this emotional trauma and has the wonderful life with his Dad that is his birthright. -- Now - Im not real sure Jersey is the place to live but thats my personal opinion since I left there and moved to Florida last year! Come to SW Florida David and Sean!
Actually, Representative Smith has been helping on this case for some time now. As far as the other politicians, I think they all jumped on board as of late.
I have been following this case for some time. I am sooooooo happy that this has happened. David and his son Sean should be together. I hope some day Sean will realize what a wonderful father he has. As Sean grows into a man, I am sure he will realized just how special his father is and he is blessed to have such a great role model in his life.
Makes Christmas really special this year!!
