David Fincher's '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' finds funding

It looks like David Fincher’s (“Fight Club”) long in the works re-imagining of “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” might finally come to the big screen.

In an effort to get the massive budget he needs for the 70% CGI film Fincher had his pal Brad Pitt (“Se7en”) signed on to star, but Pitt has sense had to leave the project due to scheduling issues.

However, according to THR today, Disney has now found a way to make the massive budget possible.

Australia is offering Disney a 30% tax rebate if they bring the production down under, which is almost double what the Aussie nation offers other foreign productions (except recently filmed “The Wolverine”).

The Jules Verne adaptation is closer now than ever before, and with Fincher shooting in 3D this is more than likely the final push Disney needed to give him the green light.
