Newcomer David Fanning is taking quite the risk with his debut single, sent to radio on Monday (April 28). Taking a spin to Justin Timberlake's "Drink You Away," the singer-songwriter is aimed at a major breakthrough--his southern-rock version certainly fits nicely between Florida Georgia Line and Luke Bryan in the landscape.
"The feeling I get knowing I have a song being played on country radio is unlike anything I have ever felt,” Fanning shares about the song in a release on Tuesday (April 29). “I'm so thankful to country radio, my label and my fans for letting me live my dream."
Originally debuting on Sirius XM's "The Highway," "Drink You Away" has (impressively) already moved nearly 40,000 digital downloads. Last fall, when Timberlake first heard the song, he shared, “Never thought I would hear a song I wrote on country radio. My GrandDad is smiling from a bar in Heaven!”
To-date, Fanning has been gaining critical acclaim for the song, including features on CMT and Billboard. "David Fanning truly is the 'poster boy' for the term 'triple threat.' He can sing, play, produce--he does it all, and he does it all well," lauds CMT host and reporter Samantha Stephens.
Likewise, industry journalist Chuck Dauphin also shares in the sentiment: "[He] has released a track that is at both times modern yet has a very traditional side that should play well to fans on both sides of the street in his hometown of Ardmore. Watch out, Nashville, David's time is now!”
