Former Mayor of Parker Colorado, David Casiano, has founded a new theater company in Parker. The Café La Papa E.T.C. (Experimental Theater Company) which will make its debut this Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Parker Library with the performance of "The Zoo Story" by Edward Albee.
This one-act play concerns two characters, Peter and Jerry. Peter is a middle-class publishing executive with a wife, two daughters, two cats and two parakeets. Jerry is an isolated and disheartened man. These men meet on a park bench in New York City's Central Park. Jerry is desperate to have a meaningful conversation with another human being. He intrudes on Peter’s peaceful state by interrogating him and forcing him to listen to stories like "The Story of Jerry and the Dog," and the reason behind his visit to the zoo. The action is linear, unfolding in front of the audience in “real time”. The elements of ironic humor and unrelenting dramatic suspense are brought to a climax when Jerry brings his victim down to his own savage level.
This production is directed by Jenni Kjerstad, stage managed by Christina Petersen, and stars BJ Kellogg as Peter and David Casiano as Jerry.
"The Zoo Story" is playing at the following Douglas County Libraries. All shows are at 6 p.m. and admission is free. Donations are appreciated.

Café La Papa, in partnership with the Parker Arts Council, will be presenting great American classic productions, as well as some theater of the absurd. Future productions will include, Waiting for Godot by Samuel Becket, directed by Amy Martin, Clarence Darrow, One-Man Show by David Rintels, Story Theater by Paul Sills, and a Mainstreet Theater production of The Rimers of Eldridge by Lanford Wilson.
“These were plays and playwrights I cut my acting and directing teeth on,” stated Casiano, “and I think there is an audience throughout Douglas County that would appreciate great-classic theater.” “We will tour the Douglas County libraries as we feel our libraries are the perfect venue to perform such plays in.”
Some of the plays are geared toward audiences 16-years old and older but you can check with Casiano. Yes, Parker has a new theater company and we welcome this new venture.
