Can you revive a career after a nearly 10 year absence? Singer David Bowie is going to try to find that out with a new song he released today. The release of this song is the first in nearly a decade and it also helps celebrate his 66th birthday.
The song is titled “Where Are We Now?” Produced by long-term collaborator Tony Visconti, it is a look back at the time Bowie spent in Berlin in the 1970s. The video which will accompany the song contains black and white footage of Berlin when it was still a city divided by The Wall, sad nostalgia for those who remember that dark period of history. The song is available for purchase on iTunes and free to view on Mr. Bowie’s re-launched website at davidbowie.com.
The single precedes the release of Mr. Bowie’s first studio album since 2003 which is titled “The Next Day” due for release in the United States on March 12. In the past, Bowie has sold in excess of 130 million albums. So far there is no word as to whether or not he will tour to promote this new music.
The long silence from David Bowie led to speculation that he had retired. The new work appears to negate that.
