GT Spirit reported yesterday (Aug.26,2013) that newly retired soccer superstar David Beckham was spotted cruising the streets of Los Angeles in his 2013 McLaren MP4-12C Spider. Powerful, fast and agile would be three words to describe quite generically Beckham's style of play on the pitch as well as this car on the track. If you ask me, Beckham and this McLaren convertible are a match made in heaven.
Beckham has been known to be a bit of a car fanatic himself with his private collection of Bentley's, Ferrari's and Lamborghini's. Wife Victoria Beckham is also notorious for motoring along in her personal Jaguar XJ Roadster. Now it seems that Beckham has shelled out a quarter of a million dollars to have a piece of British engineering capable of cruising the streets with the top down but still capable of hitting more than 200 MPH.
The $250,000 super-car convertible is powered by McLaren’s very capable 3.8L twin turbo V8 with 616 HP and 443 lbs-ft of torque, enough to rocket this footballer to 60 MPH in less than four seconds (3.1 in the hardtop).
We've got to hand it to Beckham. After years of superstar performance and philanthropic work, he deserves to reward himself in a way that only a world renowned soccer player can.
