David Archuleta vs. Bob Dylan: Christmas and hearts in two new albums (Poll)

David Archuleta's album "Christmas From The Heart" is competing with Bob Dylan's "Christmas In The Heart," which was released on the same day.
Archuleta's "Christmas From The Heart" is competing with Dylan's "Christmas In The Heart," released on the same day.

David Archuleta vs. Bod Dylan: Christmas and hearts in two new albums with very similar titles.

The American Idol runner up David Archuleta might have some important competition to worry about, and we are talking about a name much more important than David Cook, or Adam Lambert. That name is the one of Bob Dylan.

As his fans, (and probably anybody with access to the internet), know, David Archuleta's holiday album, "Christmas From The Heart," was released on October 13th. Successful pre orders and even a Twitter Trending Party, all fueled by fans, put the product on the map.

The thing is, his album is not the only one that came out on October 13th. Furthermore, it is not the only Christmas album released on that day. But worse of all, and we are not even counting the fact that the competing album is by the one and only Bob Dylan, that album is titled "Christmas In The Heart."

With only a preposition to differentiate the titles, could this be a problem?

Maybe that will not be the case. True, Bob Dylan may have won many awards, including Grammys and even a Pulitzer mention, and he may be mentioned six times in the Rock and Rock and Hall of Fame, to list some of his musical accomplishments. And yes, he may be one of the most important figures in the history of music. But David Archuleta has a lot of fans willing to spend a lot of time helping him promote and sell his music, as well as his tour tickets.

What do you think?

how dare you compare the two?? bob dylan is a legend!!! what is david? the karaoke kid? c'maaaaahn....be serious.

  • ME! 2 years ago

David Archuleta is only 18 years old and he is incredibly talented, already on his way to be a very successful singer/performer/songwriter. David Archuleta is a music legend in the making. I already bought his Christmas album and it is exquisite! beautiful! a work of art. His heavenly voice together with the incredible arrangements and harmonies make this album a beautiful work of art.

come on! Bob Dylan and Christmas music?? I dont think so.
Bought his cd and some for gifts for my girlfriend, sisters and mom, well for the whole family. his voice is incredible. Made for Christmas Music. Love Pat A Pan!

Now if David album was folk music, then Bob Dylan of course

  • pam05 2 years ago

Dr. Tobias I wish Mr. Dylan well, but if you have you ever even heard David Archuletas Xmas CD, I don't think you would classify him as a karaoke kid. He is touring with a symphony orchestra this Holiday Season, I wouldn't classify that as karaoke. AOL Radio is playing his CD all this week live I suggest you check it out :D

    David's album is perfect..that voice..that voooooice..so glorious!!!

I already have David's album. It exudes peace and left mee in tears. The arrangement of silent Night is the best I have ever heard. Check it out on AOL listening party. I think you will find it is a real treat

but it's a christmas album. you know, christmas songs sung by singers. bob dylan may be an icon in music history but i don't know if i want to hear him sing christmas songs. although the album is for a good cause and i give him kudos for that. david's christmas album is beautiful.

DR. TOBIAS, I'M 48 AND I NEVER REPEAT NEVER THOUGHT MUCH OF BOB DYLANS VOICE. I KEEP BELIEVE PEOPLE STILL LIKE THAT CRAPPY VOICE. DAVID ARCHULETA HAS MORE TALENT IN HIS 18 YEARS THAT BOB DYLAN COULD HAVE ONLY DREAMED ABOUT. UGH UNBELIEVABLE, GET A GRIP THE 60'S ARE OVER DR. TOBIAS.

  • babda 2 years ago

Dylan is a legend but I sure DON'T want to listen to christmas music massacred by him. David is a legend in the making and I will listen to his exquisite cd from now until Christmas and for every Christmas thereafter! Was mumbly-mouth Dylan a legend at 18y? I didn't think so...

  • mandy 2 years ago

Dylan's awesome..I take nothing away from him. But if you enjoy traditional Christmas music...give David Archuleta a listen. His fans are over zealous at times... but he's a talented kid.

ME!: save a copy of this post and look at it 5 years from now...then look me up and apologize. (legend my @$%)

Dan: sounds like bad taste in music runs in the family. sorry for your loss.

jess: I respect your position, but you are in fact wrong about david's album being beautiful. i'm sorry, you need some depth, too...more than any contest winner will give you.

elaine: didn't some people say the later beatles stuff was garbage when it was happening? so maybe those 'who were there' aren't always right. by the way, i'm 27. ;)

babda: think again. compare where music was at as an industry then to today, and look at it with some perspective. apples and oranges, friend.

pam05: he has many advantages for winning the world's most watched contest. where you're confused is assuming that this equates to real musical talent. it actually just equates to more $$$ from viewers, advertisers, etc. david is in the mu$ic business, not a musician.

    any more questions i ca

david archuleta is simply the best. i listened to ave maria on his new Christmas cd and all i can say is bravo david, bravo.

  • ELAINE 2 years ago

DR. TOBIAS I LOVE BEATLES BECAUSE THEY HAD TALENT. IN ORDER TO LISTEN TO DYLAN I WOULD HAVE TO BE A SPACE CADET. IT'S A SHAME AT 27 YOU DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT TRUE TALENT IS. THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINING FOR DAVID ARCHULETA. AT MERCIFULLY THE END FOR A WASHED UP OLD MAN WITH A BAD VOICE.

  • Ed 2 years ago

There is no competition there. Cleary it is David by a thousand miles.

  • Angel 2 years ago

OMG there is NO camparison between the two albums. I actually listened to Bob Dylan's album today, and I have to say it was terrible to me. He sounds like he has gravel in his throat and like he is 100 years old when he sings. I know he is suppose to be a legend, but I really don't know why he put out a Christmas album, because the dude cannot sing! He may have won awards when he was younger, but his voice is really bad now. I have always heard of him, so I thought I would check it out. Boy...I was really disappointed! I am not trying to bring out the haters here, just expressing my opinion.

  • Shelley 2 years ago

Why are we comparing again? one is singing from his heart and one is singing like he is singing from a bar. I can't wait for David Archuleta's album to get here, had to order it online because stores didn't have any left, they said they sold out. By the way, Dylan's is for charity, I don't think I could give buy that for charity.

Jess I'm with you on this one. He may have been an icon, but HE IS NOT ABLE TO SING CHRISTMAS MUSIC! That is just not his type of music.

  • Angel 2 years ago

Dr Tobias-They are two totally different type of singers and should not be compared. David sang in 4 different languages on the Christmas cd. Not many artists do that.

Dr. Tobias: You need something to cool you down, people are entitle to express their opinion,if somebody doesn’t like Bob Dylon then they don’t if they do then they do,you can’t inject your idea, btw you’re desperately posting the same thing.

DR. TOBIAS YAY I HAVE A QUESTION, WHAT KIND OF DRUGS ARE YOU ON ?

  • ELAINE 2 years ago

OH AND ANGEL BTW DYLAN ALWAYS HAD A GRAVELY VOICE. HE ALWAYS SOUNDED THAT BAD. ANY QUESTIONS DR. TOBIAS!

  • lisa 2 years ago

listened to both albums, 2 COMPLETELY diff voices and I must say David's voice is glorious along w/ the arrangements and production. I'll be enjoying this Christmas CD for decades!

  • Benji 2 years ago

I was a Dylan fan back in the day. But it was never for his singing. It was for his brilliant lyrics and melodies. His muse left him long ago, and he's riding on past glory. His Christmas album is jolly good fun, corny as hell, and often laugh-out-loud funny. A nice gesture for charity. Nothing wrong with that.

Tell me Dr. Tobias, What is musical talent? Let's start there to deconstruct your assessment. Also, tell us what qualifies you to say what is musical talent.

David's CD is amazing!!!! I keep hearing some different aspect to each song every time I listen. I just listen to Bob Dylan's CD and I just thought is this serious or a joke?

  • Rocker Sally 2 years ago

okay, Is Dylan really have a Christmas Album?? How funny
well if it is for charity, I'll buy it but i think I'll gift it away to someone. ( maybe BIL, he went to woodstock! lol).

Listen to David's album and boy does that kid have some pipes. I love going on AOL, gives you a chance to hear it before you buy. Well think I'm going to buy it. Great to add to my collection of Xmas albums. Got to say, its quite good. PAT A Pan? I have never heard of that song or Riu Riu Chiu. I really love Pat A Pan! Made me move in my chair! How many languages does this kid sing in? I counted 4! Oh the Ave Maria was stunning!!

Love the duet with Charice girl.. Lovely duet, sound awesome together!
Love the arrangements and the orchestra. I give this xmas album 5 stars!! I highly recommend it. Very enjoyable

  • sj 2 years ago

Yes, Dylan is a legend and yes, Dylan is talented but not because of his voice.

David has a beautiful voice and is very talented as well - he is just beginning his career and has many years ahead of him to make a name for himself.

  • goboywonder 2 years ago

"Bring your little drum. Robin, get your fife and come..." Need you even ask?

  • RV 65 2 years ago

There were only 10 singers during the time of Dylan...so that's why he succeeded.....you cannot compare David to him...its like comparing a T-Rex to a Labrador...lol....come on! Barry Mannilow would be a teenager compared to Dylan...who listens to old music anyway?...lol...my grandpa does......but he usually does it alone...oh well i guess old people like that type of music.

I don't wish to compare the two albums. I do want to comment on David Archuleta's remarkable "Christmas From The Heart"...his gift to his fans. I've lived a long time and never thought I would experience the complete mutual admiration between an artist and his fans. This is what sets David apart...not to mention his tremendous talent and humble spirit! This album is beyond what I had imagined it to be! ?Ave Maria? is sheer "bliss". When David sings, he takes me to that place he goes..I feel his heart in every word, every note! Thank you, David! SHINE ON!!

  • Marylee 2 years ago

.oops... I put musical notes around "Ave Maria" in my earlier post and they showed up as ?? (question marks)...never a question about how Ave Maria makes me feel...it's what I would imagine Heaven to feel like!

  • imrose 2 years ago

I listened to some of Bob Dylan's Christmas In the Heart album and his voice just doesn't do it for me. I know it is for a good cause but I would rather send that money as a donation. I know he is a legend but his voice never did much for me even back in the day.

David Archuleta's voice is heavenly and the selections include traditional as well as some lesser known to the American public. I say just enjoy who you like. I am and David Archuleta is on repeat.

Oh and Dr. Tobias I don't believe you even listened to DA's Christmas From the Heart.

  • rosie 2 years ago

I preordered my Archuleta Christmas album from a FYE at the mall.
My husband went to pick it up on the 13th, it was already bagged for him to take. So I open the bag and EEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKK!!! its Bob Dylan. It was like Halloween came early. Thank God they had David's album available for exchange.

  • Carl 2 years ago

Bob Dylan may be a legend but his singing ability is mediocre at best. If you prefer the 2 pack a day gravelly voice over David Archuletas smooth tenor, you're probably one of those that think Tom Waites has a good voice.

  • char 2 years ago

David Archuleta's Christmas cd is heavenly! I find it soothing, beautiful, joyful, passionate, warm, etc., etc. Bob Dylan may be the legend but David Archuleta is a true artist!!
