David Archuleta performs in Las Vegas for Fox New Year's Eve Live show (Video)

Friday night on one of the coldest New Year’s Eve on record, David Archuleta took to the microphone to perform ‘Elevator.’ The American Idol runner up was performing live for a medium size crowd in Las Vegas as well as a national audience watching on Fox.

The performance, perhaps not the best of Archuleta’s had to be hard to make perfect. Seeing how cold it was at the venue and having the audience continuously screaming over the entertainer had to a major distraction and little could be done by the entertainer.

As FOX is trying to compete with some of the bigger New Year’s Eve shows, they have a long way to go before anyone will be taking them seriously. As for David Archuleta, he is a casualty of bad stage issues that needed to be fixed before he hit the stage to perform.

Check out David Archuleta’s performance from Friday night on the video clip. It is a good song, good vocals but terrible equipment issues.

    WHAT????!!!!!!

What were you listening to? So far by tweets of those that were there are saying he was amazing, sounded and looked great.

I watched on TV and I'm totally baffled by what you are saying because I didn't catch anything wrong, David's vocals were loud and clear, no lip singing like travie, and in perfect tune.

I looked at who the other acts were on the other channels and had no interest in any of them.

I actually thought he sounded pretty good, too. Didn't really see the problems -- although I'm not sure I would have chosen those as the two songs I sang for this venue.

    But it's all good

WTH-What stage issues?- He sounded and looked fantastic despite the cold. Believe me this audience is nothing compared to what he is used to- hardly a distractiion to him .I'd much rather listen to David's glorious voice than some pretaped, overdubbed, yet out-of tune singer. Go Archie!

I, too am BAFFLED at your review!!! I thought HE SOUNDED great and didn't detect any sound problems!!

The two songs he chose are very difficult to sing, which makes him even more of a GREAT PERFORMER!!

In fact, I think DAVID RAISED THE TEMPERATURE to at least 80 degrees while he was singing. The temp before he sang was 29 degrees!!

  • janey 1 year ago

Jodi, I watched on TV and checked with someone who was there and I can't detect any "issues". I noticed that Neon Limelight (who are HUGE supporters of David) also mentioned some imperfections. I'm really curious, could you point them out?

  • Heidijoy 1 year ago

I saw ot on Live Stream and TV and thought Archuleta was great!! Those that were there thought David was the best of the night. Others were pre-taped performances and lip synching.
Are you sure you didn't get the sound check??

  • Debbie Gloria 1 year ago

You don't know David's style of singing he likes to add some
extra oohs, ohs, yeahs and so on. The HA you heard during The Other Side of Down is something he added to the song.
He did it in his recent Dallas concert. As far as the equipment he has no control over this.

David was sooooo INCREDIBLE last night! He did an awesome job with tosod & elevator!!! He made my new year's eve sooooo wonderful!!! Bravo david!

P.s. I did not detect any tech issues or whatever...for me, it was perfect!!!

  • HinSoCal 1 year ago

Seriously??? David's performance last night on Fox was GREAT! What equipment issues are you referring to? He sounded awesome and his band was great, too. It was My Kind of Perfect!!

  • azac460 1 year ago

hmm no mention of the first song Archuleta sang & some stage issues on the song they did mention. I didn't hear any on my TV & haven't heard any mentioned in any of the other reviews I've read this morning. Did you watch it in person or on TV? Where's the review of the first song he sang "The Other Side of Down"? Archuleta sounded great to my family at home in LV. We didn't dare brave the cold or crowds to go watch in person.

  • JessTan 1 year ago

What issues are you guys talking about? It sounded great to me. Were there some tech glitches right before he sang or something?

  • VJ 1 year ago

Jodi- Hi. Tks for the article. I have to agree with the others; I thought David sounded GREAT! I think he sounded a tad bit out of breath during Elevator, but it was the coldest night in Las Vegas history from what I've read. And David tweeted beforehand that it was so cold he could barely talk...On his first song "The Other Side of Down", I thought he did incredible! The only thing I noticed was that his voice seemed a tad soft in the beginning. Is that the "bad stage issue" you're referring to?

  • VJ 1 year ago

Sorry, I meant to say "his voice seemed a tad soft in the beginning of TOSOD"...Also, I'd like to add that David is VERY used to having the audience screaming over him (not so much OVER him as FOR him~but loudly). I don't think that distracts him anymore, lol...And I admire his integrity in always choosing to sing live, if possible, regardless of the conditions he is in or surrounded by.

  • VJ 1 year ago

And David on a "bad" day STILL blasts most artists out of the water. *smiles*

  • cassiem 1 year ago

What equipment issues were you referring to? I watched David last night and again on the videos. I couldn't hear what you were talking about. I thought he looked and sounded fantastic!!!! Don't like to put other artists down, but David's performances were by far the best of the night!!!!!!!!!!

  • js 1 year ago

What technical issues?? I didn't hear any problems at all!! I thought he sounded great!! He made me want to be there dancing with him!!

  • cheryl 1 year ago

What person were you listening to? What technical difficulties? I guess maybe you have never heard David sing Elevator, if you did you would know that he sang it perfect, he always sings it differently, because he does not lip sink. Could you be more specific in your review? He was GREAT!!!!!

  • Blisskasdedn 1 year ago

Jodi, it's really OK to say that a performer gave a flawless, magnificent performance. You won't lose any media "cred" by doing so. Your review here is a tad self serving, and inaccurate. The only "issue" with David is why he doesn't have his own TV weekly variety show yet.

  • Blisskasden 1 year ago

Oops, I spelled my name wrong in my last post. I have an "issued" keyboard.

  • janey 1 year ago

To those folks leaving comments, historically Jodi has been a big fan of David's and always writes really nice things so she's not just shooting from the hip. I really am curious as to what she saw that I'm missing. I can be critical as well (some of you must have seen my twitter rant regarding the band and sound in Anaheim), not everyone heard what I heard at his last concert, so I really hope she responds.

  • djafan 1 year ago

    Hey Janey,

I was at the Anaheim concert and I heard some mention the band and sound issues but from where I was sitting I didn't get that. I hope she does respond because I'm really curious.

I have been listening to David's performance for two days now, and have seen nothing but a wonderfully brilliant performance. He is such a pleasure to watch Live. He never fails to put his pure heart and soul into everything that he sings.

  • Mayh 1 year ago

I think David peformance was great, i¨m nt gonna say it was his best, but come on! the crowd loved him, and for me he is just FANTASTIC

  • malia08 1 year ago

To me it was perfect. The "Ha" that he added in TOSOD was hillarious. I want to hear that "Ha" more often. I didn't find anything wrong with his performance. He sang really sang not lipsynching or auto tune like Travie. Go Archie Go!! Let the wind blow!!!!
