American Idol Finalist David Archuleta was born in Miami, Florida on December 28,1990. Devout Mormon parents Jeff Archuleta and Lupe Marie moved David and his four siblings to Salt Lake City Utah when David was 6. Besides watching his mother Lupe sing and dance salsa at events with her three sisters in a group known as the Mayorga Sisters. His father was also a performer who was always playing jazz on the trumpet around the house. He also had ordinary childhood activities like joining the Boy-Scouts of America before discovering his love of music. Archuleta seems to have found his true calling while watching a video of Les Miserables.
His official page states:
“As his family was relocating from Florida to Utah. It was the 10th anniversary concert of the stage musical "Les Miserables" and David became captivated with the music, playing the tape over and over, memorizing each song, complete with cockney accents. Then he discovered and fell in love with other musicals like "Evita" and "Into the Woods.”
Soon the 10 year old multi talented singer, musician, began performing in public. One of his first notable performances was at the Utah Talent Competition . He performed a rendition of "Dolly Parton's I will always love you", which earned him a standing ovation and title of Child division.
That win led him to his Television debut on the Jenny Jones “Future Latino Star’s” show. He blew away the audience by singing his version of “ And I am telling you,I’m not going”. Later at age 12 he sang of several episodes of Star Search hosted by the Arsenio Hall . Star Search had already launched the careers of other pop stars such as Britney Spears, Tiffany, Christina Aguilera, Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child,Jessica Simpson,Usher, and Archuleta was no exception.
He was headed for the top!
He appeared on Jenny Jones, and CBS’s The Early Show. There he met the finalists of American Idols first season. Archuleta used that opportunity to sing an acapella rendition of “I am telling you..I’m not going”. Reportedly he received high praise from Kelly Clarkson , American Idols first winner. When his Star Search stint was complete he found himself suffering partial vocal paralysis. He declined surgery and instead put himself on a strict vocal rest which paid off when he auditioned of American Idol in 2007.
After a performance of John Mayers song “Waiting for the world to change” Archuleta won his gold ticket to Hollywood. David was received well by fans and the judges but his father was not as warmly received. His father Jeff was attacked as a difficult and “controlling stage parent” in the weekly tabloids. Archuleta himself barely escaped a media attack when he was accused of avoiding a line of John Lennon's "Imagine" because of his religious beliefs.

The Finals found Archuleta at age 16, competing against David Cook, who ultimately won the competition . Archuleta has not let the loss to Cook get him down. He continues to perform for the “Jive” lable, and has even acted on shows such as iCarly and Hannah Montana . This year he toured the United Kingdom with English band McFly, and begins a tour with “up and coming” Demi Lovato June 21,2009.

where I was the social recreation director. Even though he was Guest of
Honor, David asked if he could serve pizza to the 100+ other children

His fans dubbed the “Arch Angels” have not let him down either. L.A Times reporter Richard Rushfield said the “hysteria” over David has only increased. Archuleta has not let all this fame go to his head, instead he being a role model, and giving back to others by teaming up with several charities including Do Something.org along with www.dunkinbrands.com/Foundation/ .Another oragnization close to his heart is Rising Star Outreachand and the fan-base charityinitiative at Angels for a Cause .

David Archuleta is amazing! I have been a huge fan of his since I saw him on American Idol. He is so talented! I can't wait for his Christmas album and his new Pop album!
Have I seen David Archuleta live in concert? Uh yeah, 8 times so far. 3 American Idol concerts and 5 solo concerts. I have tickets for 5 more concerts this summer. David's live performing is unbelievable. Not many artists are better live than on their albums, but David definitely takes it up a notch when performing live. He has such emotion and passion that he pours into each song. He also runs, jumps, stomps and has a great time on stage. His pure voice fills the arena. If you hear him live once, you must hear him again. As a person David is a great role model. He is very humble and never has a bad thing to say about anyone. He is currently recording a Christmas album and writing for another cd. Please treat yourself to seeing David Archuleta perform live.
I've been blessed to have been at 2 of David's live concerts so far. I plan on seeing a couple more this summer!
have seen him perform live 2x, planning to see him 2 more times this summer... he is a very dynamic live performer, one of the top in the game his ability to sing superbly live - no question, he is in a league all his own of pop stars able to sound better live than on recordings... his voice is so supple, and versatile to many styles, and the best part about being his fan - knowing that at 18, he's just getting warmed up.

I am a huge fan and supporter of David Archuleta. I think he is an amazing singer/songwriter. I have attended 2 AI tour shows, his 3 Jingle Jam tour shows, 2 solo tours, and recently attended 4 of his summer tour shows (and will be going to 2 more). David is such a talented musician and his voice is just phenomenal. He is amazing on stage and is such a wonderful person. I have gifted David's CD to people all over the world. David's music is special because he has such a wide aged fanbase -- but has connected us all through his personality and amazing music. I am anxiously waiting for his Xmas CD to come out the end of this year and 2nd album the beginning of next year. I definitely have a "Crush" on David Archuleta.
I have seen David 4 times live and have tickets for 4 more concerts this summer - yep, can NEVER get enough of hearing that incredible voice. He's also developing quite the stage presence and he just gets better and better with each performance.

I first heard David Archuleta sing on American Idol. I got the opportunity to hear him sing live on the tour. I thought he sounded great on TV never did I expect what I was about to hear in a live setting. He just blew me away with his vocals. He was pitch perfect on every song and his voice filled the arena. I have been to many concerts and only a few artists sound great live and David is one of them. His CD is great love every song on it which is unusual and awaiting his Christmas CD and 2nd album. Not too many music artists today that can sing outside a studio setting. This guy is like a breath of fresh air. Got my tickets for his summer tour would not miss it ...can't wait.
I have not seen him live, but I have watched all of his Youtube videos, and I am always spellbound by his talent. I have always been disappointed hearing popular recording artists sing live. They sound great on their CD's but seem to struggle for notes and lose power when singing live. Young David Archuleta does not have that problem. His voice is such a well-trained instrument that he sounds wonderful even when struggling with strep or other illnesses. He also is one of the kindest, most humble, young men I have ever seen. I can't wait for his Christmas CD. This will really be something.

I love David. When I watched him singing Heaven in the audition, I played it on Youtube over and over again. It was the most beautiful voice I had never heard in my life. Since then, I have followed him and the more I know about him, the more I am deeply drawn by his prodigious talent and his persona. It's hard to find such a pure soul.

Hi, thanks for the article about David ARchuleta, have not been to any of his concerts nor seen him in person - am somewhere in the mid of the globe. Just content myself watching him via you tube and opening "fantastic" DA fansites - they are awesome by the way - help me to get latest information of David.
He is such a rare person must i say - with a big heart and gentle soul - funny and dorky at times lol. I'd say DA is a breather compare to other artists. Am so amazed how nice this person is and super talented as well - altruistic - as a matter of fact - very rare indeed.
I would wish he could conquer the world and be one of the legends - he so deserves it. Hopefully, next year or perhaps in the years to come, i might get a chance to watch him live and meet him as well in person.

I am one of David's adult fans. He hooked me with Imagine on Idol and got me back into enjoying pop a lot. I bought an iPod and I have been to 3 of his concerts. I love his voice and soulful side and his personality is charming. David's a great guy and he's my role model for being a better human being.
awww aren't we all proud of David Archuleta. I mean i can't think of anybody else that would deserve so much...he puts so much work into his performance nite after nite, charities after charities. Everytime I look at David he just looks like a little kid, but he will fool you, he is way beyond his age, so mature so loving, humble, giving and childlike. David Archuleta is an amazing singer with an amazing attitude, personality and heart! Haven't seen him nor met him. Have not heard him sing live. For a person like me who might not be able to hear him sing live, youtube videos are a precious treat. But I can definitely say his voice is amazing, his powerful and versatile voice can fill the arena (based on youtube videos). How I wish I will have the chance to see and hear him sing live! Because of David, I am encouraged to donate in charities he is supporting. I love this young man because even at a very young age, he recognizes the essential things in life - family, friends and helping others. His strong faith in God will guide him, his family will keep him grounded and his fans will always have his back and will continuously support and love him. I was struck by David the first time I saw his American Idol audition. I pegged him as the winner immediately. I loved his voice, his personality and his smile. He is a special young man and I will be his fan forever. I've been to two of his concerts and wil attend more in the future. Love, love, love him!

I'm one of David's older fans. I've seen him in concert 3 times and plan on attending many more if he comes anywhere near my neck of the woods. I was lucky enough to have a VIP ticket for last night's concert in Seattle. He sang, no...he prayed, a verse of Mary Did You Know, A caplla for us. The purity of David's voice is surreal. That voice, along with his charming and very real persona is what keeps me coming back for more. His kind and giving spirit inspires me to give to those in need. I thank God daily for the gift of David Archuleta. He's simply wonderful.

Thanks for a great article. I am a HUGE fan of David's. His inspirational voice and spirit helped me through some rough times, and I am extremely grateful. He got me listening to music again, as well, after a 20 year lapse. I was strictly talk radio and periodic trips to the Symphony. Now, I listen to music all the time--mainly his, truth be told.
I have seen David sing seven times and have logged over 10,000 miles in the effort. It was sooo worth it! My most amazing experience was just this week when I David sang to 80 of us in VIP in a smaller space with no screaming or other noise to muddle the sound. It was UNBELIEVABLE!
I've probably been to the Symphony 50 times, and I think David's the best singer I've ever heard. He can blow the doors off the barn just like the great opera singers when so inclined. Many of them are quite good, but NO ONE can emote in a song like David. It's unreal.
Besides the great talent, he's as endearing and gorgeous a human being as God ever made.
