David Archuleta announces break from music; Planning Mormon mission trip

American Idol runner up David Archuleta announced Monday night he's taking a break from music to go on a two year mission trip. The Utah native, who found sudden fame as the 2007 American Idol runner up, first broke news of his plans to a crowd of fans in his hometown of Salt Lake City.

An emotional Archuleta assured fans he was not giving up music altogether and would get back to it after returning from his mission trip with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. "It’s not because someone told me that I’m supposed to do it, and not because I no longer want to do music, but because it’s the feeling that I’ve felt I need to do this with my life,” Archuleta said.

Archuleta did not reveal where he will be serving out his mission.
