Davey has made so much progress since coming into rescue! A month ago, he was scared of everything, including toys and other dogs. After just a few weeks, he’s learned how to be a real dog who loves to play all day long.
His best friend is Sundance, also in rescue; the two teenage boys are constantly wrestling, chasing each other and chewing on each other’s faces. Davey still doesn’t know what toys are for, but he isn’t scared of them any more.
An extremely loving, affectionate overgrown puppy, Davey is full of kisses and cuddles. He loves people, including men, women, kids and strangers. Whenever someone comes over to visit, he’s the first doggie to say hello.
He was initially scared of being picked up, but now he likes it very much, especially when he gets kisses and face rubs. He is fascinated with people and will do just about anything to earn their love. Davey would never hurt anyone—it’s just not in his nature.
We’d love to place Davey in a home with children over five years old. He would be a perfect first dog for a gentle child looking for a best friend.
We think Davey is a mixture of red dachshund and a Heinz 57/terrier mix. His body and coloring is that of a dachshund, but he has the “worried” pittie forehead and the super-loving pittie nature. We’ve had this type of mix in rescue several times, and they always turn out to be wonderful family dogs.
We don’t know how he’d be with kitties, but he’s so young and impressionable that we think he’d be fine with a proper introduction.
Davey really needs a doggie big brother or sister to look up to and teach him new things. He’d be okay in a home with people who work, as long as he has a friend to keep him busy.
A quiet dog who almost never barks, Davey enjoys spending time in his crate and often goes in during the day for a long nap.
He would do best in a home with a yard and doggie door, but he could be an apartment or condo dog if he went on regular walks, which he LOVES. His long legs make him an excellent choice for families who have stairs in their home.
