Bellator is back at it again with another installment of their action inside the circular cage this week with Bellator 93 coming from the Androscoggin Bank Collisee in Lewiston, Maine. While this card doesn’t feature many of the big names that mixed martial arts fans have come to know through other promotions, it does have a very captivating main event that could end the night on a very high note.
Dave Jansen and Marcin Held will finally meet in the season seven finale to the lightweight tournament. Looking at both of these athletes they may not be known by the mainstream crowd; however they have the skill set to quickly change that situation.
If finishes in MMA get your attention then this main event should be on your schedule to watch Thursday. With 33 total wins between the two fighters 22 of those wins have come by some form of stoppage. Submissions are the method of choice as Jansen has 10 tap outs to his name while Held has 8 of his own. Coming into this main event bout they are each riding on five-fight win streaks.
Four of Held’s recent wins have come in the Bellator cage with the biggest two coming against Phillipe Nover and Rich Clementi in November of 2011 and 2012 respectively. Jansen hasn’t defeated anyone of the same caliber while in Bellator, but he did go 1-2 while a part of the Zuffa owned World Extreme Cagefighting. His two losses to Ricardo Lamas and Kamal Shalorus in 2010 sent him packing from the company. Since that last loss he has ripped off impressive wins towards this bout.
The winner will take home $100,000 and an opportunity to face Michael Chandler for the Bellator lightweight title at a later event. Held may be looking to get revenge against Chandler who finished him in the first round back in 2011 at Bellator 36.
When comparing these two fighters it is clear to see that they are both wrestlers who have the ability to take the fight to the ground against most opponents. However, when two high level wrestlers are placed against each other, their abilities often cancel each other out and viewers are treated to a striking battle. It will be interesting to see which fighter can control the action on the feet since both have been so proficient on the mat.
As Michael Chandler waits to see who will become a potential challenger to his title; Marcin Held and Dave Jansen are battling it out for their biggest payday and perhaps the biggest opportunity in their careers.
