Dave Chappelle got a mayoral smack down Thursday, when Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra responded to the fallout from Chappelle's walk-off performance last week in the Connecticut capital. Chappelle continued to disparage the city as his tour moved on, according to USA Today on Sept. 5. Segarra tweeted that Dave should stop all his whining about the incident in which he was basically booed off the stage, and even suggested he try to chill out by maybe doing some yoga.
After the Hartford fiasco, in which Chappelle stopped his performance and suggested he was only waiting out his contracted time on stage before walking off, he told his Chicago audience Tuesday that they were way better.
Chappelle was the headliner at the Aug. 29 Funny or Die Presents The Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival in Hartford. In his Chicago stop Tuesday night, he called the Hartford audience a bunch of "young, white alcoholics".
He went on to say he hoped no ill will on the USA, but if North Korea ever decides to drop a nuclear bomb on us he hopes it lands in Hartford.
Mayor Segarra likely thought it only appropriate to defend his city, and also referred on Twitter to Chappelle's Chicago comments as being "immature and inappropriate".
Maybe the Hartford mayor should think about doing some stand up, because it is pretty funny how he tells the comedian to basically shut up and do his job.
Chappelle told the Chicago fans he'd never stop in Hartford again, not even for gas.
