According to a March 11 report from NerdReactor.com, former WWE superstar Dave Bautista is meeting with Marvel this week regarding the now open role for Guardians of the Galaxy.
Bautista, who was last seen busting heads in the WWE ranks, previously starred in The Man with the Iron Fists, and he did a fine job in it. However, he never closed the door on his MMA career after knocking out Vince Lucero in Oct. of last year, and he may be ready to return to the cage.
The timing is right for Bautista's return to the MMA cage, as former NFL star Herschel Walker hopes to fight once more as well. Bautista vs Walker would be a ratings bonanza, and both men would leave it all out in the cage.
"I'd love to do it again," Walker recently told the LaVar Arrington Show with Chad Dukes (106.7 The Fan in Washington, D.C.). "I absolutely love MMA. I think it's an excellent sport.
"If I were younger, I'd be doing it right now," Walker added. "Because I'm a little bit older and I have a business going, I say I'd like to do one more fight, and then I think it's time for me to step aside and give it to the young people. But I'd like to do one more fight."
Walker, now 51 years old wants his final MMA fight to come inside the UFC octagon, and Bautista would make for a perfect opponent
"I've had a couple of people talk about they want to fight me," Walker said. "I'm like, 'Guys, you all are calling me out. It's almost like saying you want to plan on your homecoming game. But you better bring more than your lunch because I love this sport.'
A Walker vs Bautista matchup works on many levels, and it would certainly sell a good amount of pay-per-views.
Both men are undefeated in their MMA careers, and it's a far cry from a freak-show matchup between celebrities. Bautista and Walker both have serious skills inside the cage, and would put on a great show for the fans if the fight went down.
Bautista is a serious athlete who hung with the best of the best inside the WWE, and Walker keeps himself in prime condition at 51 years old. If the fight did go down, it would definitely be a heavyweight tilt. Walker walks around at 225 pounds, but Bautista tips the scales at 265.
