Members of the Samuel Bacot Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Florence, South Carolina presented 600 Hats for Heroes to Camp Lejeune in November 2013. A total of 450 caps were filled with candy and sent to troops that were deployed before Christmas. Another 175 hats will be given to the Wounded Warriors organization for soldiers that are in rehabilitation at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

These knitted Hats for Heroes were made with acrylic or wool yarn and are designed to fit underneath a soldier’s helmet. This is an ongoing project for the chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Florence, South Carolina. The 600 caps came from other chapters around the state of South Carolina and were then transported to Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

Another 120 hats were taken to the Veterans Hospital in Walterboro, South Carolina. The next meeting of the Samuel Bacot chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in January will be a trip to tour the Archives and Museum in Camden, South Carolina.

The National Daughters of the American Revolution website has a listing of all chapters by state and information on the DAR museum and a schedule of events that are held in the DAR Constitution Hall.
