Howie Borowick lost his battle with pancreatic cancer last week (Dec. 7) after years of supporting his wife through her breast cancer treatments. The heartbreaking struggles were highlighted in endearing photos captured by his daughter, Nancy.
Borowick’s wife, Laurel, was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997, which has recurred three times since. The latest diagnosis was given in the fall of 2011 and by January of 2013, the cancer had spread to her brain.
Just a month before Laurel’s brain cancer was detected, Howie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (Dec. 2012). Both have a history of cancer in their families.
The photos tell a story of how a husband and wife share their struggles together, mutually fighting for their lives. The images show tender embraces, a husband and wife receiving chemotherapy together but most importantly, the pictures show the supportive relationship of two people who genuinely care about each other: Partners supporting each other 'through thick and thin.'

Nancy has been documenting this love story for two years in pictures but time was running out for her plans to marry. She had planned to be married in the spring of 2014 but wanted Howie and Laurel to attend.
She changed her wedding date to October 2013 and was honored to have both her parents present.
