After the Senate voted on the important legislation to open the government back up and raise the debt ceiling, they also took care of some other business. According to an Oct. 17 report on Fox News, the Senate confirmed Caroline Kennedy as the new ambassador to Japan.
Kennedy is the daughter of the late John F. Kennedy who was assassinated when she was almost six years old. She has pledged to continue her father’s legacy as she serves as an ambassador.
Among the members of former president Kennedy’s immediate family, Caroline is the only one still alive. Jacqueline Kennedy died of cancer in 1994, and John Kennedy, Jr. was killed in a plane crash in 1999. Caroline Kennedy is married to Edwin Schlossberg, and they have three children: Rose, Tatiana and Jack.
Caroline Kennedy was very instrumental in the re-election campaign of President Barack Obama. She was originally being considered to replace Hillary Clinton in her Senate seat, but withdrew her name from the nomination.
