Why does it seem that everything in regards to finding that “one” person is confusing? Dating is confusing, yet being single is confusing. Everyone sets out searching for that perfect person. Well, guess what? That perfect person may not exist. Dating isn’t about finding a person that meets the checklist you have set in stone in your mind. Instead, dating should be about conversation and finding that one person that you can connect with. Nothing is more important than that immediate connection; the second you feel it, you know.
Many young adults struggle with dating because they are looking for some person they dreamed up in their mind. They go into Boston on the weekends and go to the same clubs and bars that they frequent every week, searching the crowd for that person that catches their eye. You aren’t going to find your soul mate in a bar. And if you do, congratulations – you are one of the few.
A lot of people meet someone and don’t know if the person is the “right” one. Yet, how will you know unless you give them a chance? If you’re in your twenties and single, do you even know what you want? A song by The Naked and Famous called “What We Want,” from their new album In Rolling Waves, is a song about two people who have no idea what they want in their lives, never mind from each other. This song is fitting, as this is how most people who are single in their 20’s feel.
Although dating can be confusing and being single can be frustrating, none of us know what we want or whom we want to be with until one day, that person will walk into your life and change you – and then you just know.
