The ninth annual Kentucky State Park Race Series will start on April 20 at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park with the Goose Creek 5K. Other dates for the series are May 11 with the Spring Hoot 5K at Barren River Lake State Resort Park; June 8 at Taylorsville Lake State Park with the Possum Ridge 5K; the Magnolia 5K on July 13 at Rough River Dam State Resort Park; and August 8 at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park with the Turkey Strut 5K.
Runners of all ages can participate in the individual races or sign up to run in all five for the overall championship. Points and awards will be given for male and female runners in the series as well as those taking part in single races with divisions for age groups.
The grand prize winners, who must compete in all five races, will be named at the August 3 Lake Cumberland Race. Runners who participate in all five races will receive a certificate and will be registered for a special giveaway.
The race events are open to walkers as well as children; strollers and pets on leash are also welcome.
Each race has a preregistration fee of $20.00 and a week-prior and race-day fee of $25.00; fee for walkers for individual races is $15.00 in advance or $20.00 for the week prior and race day. The fee for all five races is $85.00 if paid by April 12; fee for walkers for all five events is $60.00.
New for 2013 is an online registration option for runners for both the entire series and the individual races. Registration for individual races can also be made by contacting the parks where the races will be held.
The Goose Creek 5K, at Tom Sawyer, takes place on April 20. Deadline for preregistration is April 12 via online or mailed form. Race-day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with race starting at 9:00 a.m.
The Spring Hoot 5K, at Barren River Lake, takes place on May 11. Deadline for preregistration is May 3 via online or mailed form. Race-day registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. with race starting at 8:30 a.m.
The Possum Ridge 5K, at Taylorsville Lake, takes place on June 8. Deadline for preregistration is May 31 via online or mailed form. Race-day registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. with race starting at 8:00 a.m.
The Magnolia 5K, at Rough River dam, takes place on July 13. Deadline for preregistration is July 5 via online or mailed form. Race-day registration will begin at 6:00 a.m. with race starting at 7:30 a.m.
The Turkey Strut 5K, at Rough River dam, takes place on August 3. Deadline for preregistration is July 26 via online or mailed form. Race-day registration will begin at 6:00 a.m. with race starting at 7:30 a.m.
