Dateline” reports on crime investigations in the United States. Keith Morrison narrates this story, “In the Dead of the Night.”

Rob Fischer used to be a cop in California, but created a family law practice. He drove 6 hours across Arizona to visit his step daughter Belinda & her children. After consuming a lot of alcohol one night. Rob called 911 to report a possible suicide. Belinda's husband Lee Radder was found dead from a gunshot wound & lying on the floor.

Lee was a business entrepeneur who always needed money. Belinda went back to school & became a nurse. They lived paycheck to paycheck. Rob always brought presents for his step-grandchildren. Lee, Belinda & Rob drank a lot of alcohol after dinner. Lee had claimed he had a new contract job with Indian casinos. Lots of money would be coming in for him & his family.

On the morning of Dec. 30, 2014, Rob found his son-in-law Lee dead holding a gun in his hand. He called 911 around 5 a.m. He said Lee was shot & didn't “get it” or understand it. Belinda walked into the room that morning claiming she was in a catatonic state. She was observed as a wife who didn't care about her dead husband. Nor did she look at Lee or ask what had happened.

Belinda told police detective that Lee didn't own a gun. She put her kids to bed around 10:30 p.m. She then said Lee got an email about the contract with the Indian casinos. She was drunk too & it seems was in a daze from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. on the next morning. The detective questioned why for 6 hours that Belinda didn't hear a gunshot. She & Rob say that Lee committed suicide.

Lee's family didn't believe for a minute that it was suicide. Belinda was still so confused that when she called Lee's mother. She gave no information, but that it was a suicide. At Lee's memorial Belinda told his sister Anne that they'll never know what happened. The complete 911 tape was heard by Lee's family. They wonder why Belinda didn't perform CPR because she is a nurse. That gun actually belonged to Rob Fischer.

Did Belinda know more than what she let on about her husband's death? Why did Lee have Rob's gun? If it was a suicide then why was Lee's death ruled a homicide? - you can watch "In the Dead of Night" at the website of "Dateline: NBC."
