Have a problem with blind dates—particularly the blind aspect of these fix-ups? Let’s face it, the odds of hitting it off with someone you know nothing about (you may have gotten third party perspectives, but these may or may not be accurate) are not great. Now you can take out the blind part of the equation with Instadate. This new social networking application (app) by SocialSoft Inc. is especially for dating and allows you to see one or more picture(s) (pictures may use “filters [that] make you look amazing”, perchance better than you look in real life) and a brief description—descriptions can vary from really brief to a little more in depth (compare Jermaine’s to Titiana’s, pictured) before you meet face-to-face. There are some shortcomings and I will discuss these first, after having talked a bit more about the app and company behind it. But, some people love Instadate and I will dedicate some space to discussing its benefits. As the benefits outnumber the shortcomings, it is easy to see why people love Instadate.
As SocialSoft Inc. is mostly devoted to developing gaming apps, it will surprise no one that their homepage shows three games and no dating app. The gaming face of SocialSoft Inc. has earned the company many good reviews. On the About page it says SocialSoft’s “mission is to build the best mobile engineering team in the world and bring world class entertainment to the tablet iOS and Android users worldwide.” It goes on to say “We have the resources to be able to pursue these goals and build upon our successful track record.”
The biggest shortcoming of SocialSoft’s Instadate app seems to be that people report the app crashing shortly after opening it. However, I think the second generation version of the app may have fixed this—so perhaps it is no longer a shortcoming. But, it is still a shortcoming that only certain people can access this app, because it only works with iPod touches (third generation or later), iPhones (3GS or above), or an iPad (provided it has an iOS version 5.0 or later). Another shortcoming is that while the app itself is FREE, you must buy “coins” (credits) to actually talk to a match. The negative comments are not just from one place, they can be found all over the internet. However, variations of all of these negative comments can be found on App Crawlr.
But, some people love Instadate and with its’ numerous benefits it is easy to see why. The most basic of these benefits is that on the app matches “are made using specialized algorithms so your match is the perfect one for you”. And meeting someone only requires three simple steps: “[1)] Press `Meet` on anyone you find interesting [2)] If they press `Meet` start chatting [with] them [3)] Arrange to meet somewhere and see if you like each other!” Furthermore, there are two other benefits that save you time. First you “Don't get messages from people you're not interested in.” Second, you “Don`t waste time sending messages to people who are not into you.”
So, take the “blind” out of blind dating with SocialSoft’s Instadate app. Even though it has its shortcomings, its benefits outnumber these. And you need not worry about the app corrupting children, because it is only available to those seventeen or older.
