Data outages from BlackBerry resulting in users switching to iPhones

Ever since BlackBerry users suffered a huge 3 day outage, reports have been suggesting that many BlackBerry users are considering or have switched to the iPhone already.

First there was a survey claiming that 40% of the affected Blackberry users considered abandoning RIM and of that, 64% said they’d go to an iPhone. With the media praising the iPhone 4S at the exact time BlackBerry services went down it was almost too easy for Apple to capitalize on the publicity.

Also, another report is claiming there has been an 80% increase in BlackBerry trade-ins since last weeks outages in what was already a record month of trade-ins for BlackBerry’s to begin with. With no real new BlackBerry phone release, it is likely many of these users went to the new iPhone 4S or an Android phone.

RIM tried to compensate by giving a $100 credit to the BlackBerry App World catalog of apps. Clearly, many have scoffed at that offering and are making the switch almost immediately.

Anyone switch from a BlackBerry to iPhone this month? We don’t blame you.
