The Houston Dash took another step closer to rounding out their roster for their inauguaral 2014 women's soccer campaign. On Friday in Philadelphia, the Dash added five more players to the mix drafting five more players including the number two pick in the NWSL college draft.
Together Dash managing director, Brian Ching, and head coach Randy Waldrum drafted Kealia Ohai number two. Ohai, a proven forward on the U-20 and U-23 teams and coach Waldrum are quite familiar with each other. Couple the selection of Ohai with Rafelle Souza, Jordan Jackson, Marissa Diggs and Nikki Washington via a trade and Houston Dash continue to mold a team of athletes well equipped to play coach Waldrum's up-tempo style of play.
"I am so excited about today's draft," said Waldrum following Friday's draft at the Philadelphia Convention Center. "I couldn't have asked for things to fall into place so well. It was an amazing day for the Dash.
With training camp set to open on March 10, the Dashhave scheduled an open tryout date for February 15, 2014 to help finish the rounding out of the roster.
"We definitely strengthened out team and are going to have an extremely competitive team," added Ching. "A young team, a fast team and one that's hungry with players who have been extremely successful. We ave a great coach at the helm and March 10 (training camp opening) can't come fast enough because we want to see what we have on the field."
