The Houston Dash are not sitting patand waiting for things to happen. Just three games into the season, the team has made two major moves. On Tuesday, April 29, 2014, the team traded Nikki Washington to the Boston Breakers in exchange for midfielder Kaylyn Kyle. One day later, the team announced the acquisition of Austrian star forward Nina Burger.
Kyle , 25, spent the 2013 season with Seattle Reign FC, starting 19 of the team’s 22 games and scoring three goals before being acquired by the Boston Breakers she started the first two games of the 2014 NWSL season logging 155 minutes.
Burger brings a knack for putting the ball into the back of the net having scored 239 goals in nine seasons with SV Neulengbach of Austria’s OFB-Frauenliga (OFB Women’s League). The six time scoring champions (2006-2012) currently leads the OFB with 21 goals in 20 games.
“I’m really excited about adding Nina to our roster, as this has been in the works for some time now,” head coach Randy Waldrum said. “She has a great track record of scoring goals both for club and country. She adds a dimension to our attack that we need, and her international experience will be important to our young side.”
Both players bring a wealth of international playing experience with them to a young Dash team.
Burger, a native of The Tulln an der Donau, Austria, with 29 international goals and 50 caps since 2005 is third on the all-time most capped player’s list in Women’s National Team Soccer and second all-time in scoring.
Kyle has 79 international caps for Canada including three starts in the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup and playing all six matches at the 2012 London Olympics where Canada took home the bronze.
“Along with the addition of Kaylyn Kyle this week, we are starting to add some additional international experience to the team, which we need in order to achieve the goals we’ve set for this season. I am definitely excited to add Nina to the Dash family,” continued Waldrum.
The Dash return home to BBVA Compass Stadium this Saturday, May 3, at 7 p.m. CDT against FC Kansas City.
