Darwin Singleton and Andrea Ramey of WPMI-TV led a volunteer effort to clean Government Street in Mobile in Thursday, March 27th, after promising to clean it their selves if only the official Facebook page for WPMI-TV were to have had a total of 50,000 followers (or "likes") for the first time before then.

Some of their effort was broadcast live as part of their station's local morning news program ("Local 15 Today") between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. and as part of their local midday news program ("Local 15 News at Noon"). They were even broadcast live at the top of every hour between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. for about two to four minutes, which meant some of the programs their station would usually broadcast from Monday through Friday were interrupted (including the network news program "Today" between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and the syndicated variety program "Live! with Kelly and Michael" between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.).
