Picture this: a vintage Pac Man video game. 27 beers on tap. An amazing movie like Karate Kid playing on the flat screens. No, this isn’t some fictitious magical establishment. It’s Surly Goat, your new favorite neighborhood bar.

Stroll into the entrance on Santa Monica Blvd, just west of Fairfax, and you’ll immediately feel at ease. Between the chalkboard beer menus, dartboard, cushy lounge area and shuffleboard table, the low-key vibe is a nice change of pace from the nearby Hollywood swank.

With 27 taps and an extensive selection of bottled brews, Surly Goat is perfect for both the beer aficionado and the novice who’s eager to expand his or her sudsy taste buds. The bar carries a great collection of rotating craft beers that are primarily from California. (If you want to check out the menu beforehand, head over to their website.)

If you like ginger, be sure to try the Ginger Barrell Aged Brrbon by Widmer Brothers. It will definitely warm you up like a delicious winter brew should. If you’re a caffeine junkie, order a pint of Coffee Brown beer by Saint Archer. You’ll love the full coffee notes and find yourself going back for 2nds…and 3rds.

In addition to the impressive beer assortment, the Goat has trivia nights, karaoke and a knowledgeable friendly staff. (And a full bar for those who prefer mixed drinks. But take note: they do not serve food.) So grab a table indoors and people-watch, or head to the back patio for a peek at the hilarious goat mural, and make the Surly Goat your new brew go-to!
