Darren LaCroix World Champion of Public Speaking, spoke to District Toastmasters

Darren LaCroix presented “Speaking Outside of Toastmasters for Fun, Profit, and Club Building” at the Waterfront December 12, 2011. Darren interspersed valuable information with spurts of humor. His energy made learning fun. He encouraged audience participation by recognizing the first person who answered a question and mentioning that same person also offered a helpful comment to another participant. Darren rewarded the man with the book The Speaker’s Edge by world champion speakers.

What is a World Champion of Public Speaking?

Every spring Toastmasters from fourteen countries prepare speeches for the International Speech Contest. The top two winners from each level advance. These levels are:

Club

Area

Division

District

From there the two top winners advance to the International Conference where they compete with other regions in the semi-final. From there ten winners take the international stage. One of them will become the Word Champion of Public Speaking. Out of 25,000 contestants, Darren LaCroix won this prestigious award in 2001.
