Darrelle Revis trade: rumors that Jets are willing to deal star cornerback

Derrelle Revis trade rumors are starting to surface out of the New York. It's being reported today, Jan 24, by ESPN that New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is open to trading the star cornerback, a person familiar with Johnson's thinking said Wednesday night.

The Jets are not too confident about their chances of re-signing Revis before he becomes a free agent next year, and the way things are in New York right now, who could blame Revis.

The other thing working against the Jets is Revis' contract.

After the 2013 season, Revis will become a free agent and there is a clause Revis' deal that prohibits the Jets from using the franchise tag on him at that time. In other words, it's looking like the Jets need to trade Revis so they can get something for him in return since the odds of New York resigning him are slim to none.

When asked at a news conference Thursday, new general manager John Idzik was vague about possible roster moves.

"I can't comment really," Idzik said. "I'm literally hours into the building. That we're going to save for our evaluation process."

Just wait John, the Tebow and Revis questions will be part of your new job on a daily basis. Revis is currently recovering from knee surgery and is expected to make $6 million in 2013.

Would you take a chance on Darrelle Revis if you were looking for defensive help?
