Darrell Wallace Jr. will compete in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards series’ season opener Saturday at Daytona International Speedway with Venturini Motorsports, the team announced Tuesday in a press release.
Wallace, a development driver for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) and a former participant in NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity program, will make his first Daytona start behind the wheel of VMS’s No.55 Toyota entry.
Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) announced Saturday that Wallace will run a full schedule in the NASCAR Camping World Truck series in the Kyle Busch Motorsports No. 54 Toyota Tundra. Busch races in the Sprint Cup series for JGR. The Camping World Truck series' season opener on Feb. 22 at Daytona will mark the first time Wallace will race in the truck series.
“We’re proud to once again be featuring another Gibbs’ development driver in our program. Darrell is one of those natural talents who possess skills far beyond his young age. He’s already proved he can race with the best of them. We’re expecting him to hit the track running and compete for a win at Daytona,” stated Billy Venturini, Director of Competition for VMS.
Many of the NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers will take to the track later Saturday for the Sprint Unlimited, a race previously known as the Bud Shootout. The field for 2013 will include pole winners from last year plus previous winners of the race.
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Gen-6 race car will make its competitive debut in Saturday’s Sprint Unlimited. Gen-6 will be in action three times at Daytona– the Sprint Unlimited plus a pair of Budweiser Duel qualifying events – before seeing championship action in the 55th Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 24
