Extreme metal assaults Louisville on December 9,2011, at the Phoenix Hill Tavern in the form of the band Mayhem! Black metal gods Mayhem from Norway, the epicenter of Scandanavian black metal, will be performing on stage alongside three other bands steeped in the dark arts.
Mayhem has been sonically brutalizing countless fans since 1984. One of the pioneering bands of the black metal genre, Mayhem pulls from influences like Venom and Bathory. The band's early days were filled with controversial events. Concerts often involved acts of self-mutilation with knives and shards of glass, and the stage was adorned with real impaled, animal heads. Two of the band members met gruesome deaths as well. Lead singer 'Dead' commited suicide and guitarist 'Euronymous' was murdered by a former bandmate.
Featuring lyrics based in Norse mythology, occultism, satanism and war, Mayhem will definitely not be a show for the timid or occasional metal fan! Fans can expect to hear songs like "Grand Declaration of War", "Chimera", "Deathcrush" and "The Freezing Moon". Fans of bands such as Darkthrone, Satyricon, Marduk and Carpathian Forest will no doubt flock to see this concert event!
The show also features 3 other acts of equal brutality. Keep of Kalessin, Hate and Abigail Williams are slated to open the show. Most notably, Keep of Kalessin from Norway as well, bring their own brand of melodic black metal to the stage. The band experiments with piano, keyboards and synthesizers within the scope of their music. Having toured with icons Behemoth and Dimmu Borgir, Keep of Kalessin will make your ears bleed to songs like "Ascendant" and "Divine Land".
Polish death metal band Hate, as well as Abigail Williams round out the lineup. Noteworthy, Abigail Williams hails from Phoenix, Arizona, which makes them distinctive because they are an American metal act playing European symphonic black metal. Since 2004, the band has seen moderate success with singles such as "Final Destiny of the Gods", "Into the Ashes" and "The Departure".
