So, do you like run and walk events? Do you like helping animals? Have a dog? Well, if you answered 'yes' to any of these questions then register today for the 1st annual Darke County Friends of the Shelter 5k. The race will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 9 a.m. and will be at the Darke County Fairgrounds. You can register online or in person on race day.

There will be freebies to enjoy. Love coffee or hot chocolate? Well, be prepared for free Boston Stoker's coffee and hot chocolate.

The event hasn't forgotten your furry friend either, as it will have dog snacks and a cool freebie for the first 100 people to register with their dog on race day.

Visit the Facebook page for the Darke County Friends of the Shelter and scroll down for info and pictures. Have you considered adopting a shelter animal? If so, please consider visiting the Darke County Animal Shelter where your next furry friend could be waiting for their forever home. Check their website and I encourage visiting in person to meet the available dogs and cats that may not be pictured online.

Here is what the Animal Shelter News has to say about the event:

"The Darke County Friends of the Shelter in conjunction with the “Wayne Healthcare Challenge” will be having a 5K race on Saturday April 5th 2014 to benefit the Dog Park (Scentral Park). Along with all the regular 5K awards we will be giving special awards to people who run/walk with their dog. Your dog can run, walk, be carried or in a wagon/stroller.
This run/walk will be unique: we will be offering free Boston Stoker Coffee, Hot Chocolate and free Marco’s Pizza and bread sticks.
