Chicago-based Grateful Dead tribute band Dark Star Orchestra (see video) will perform at the Val Air Ballroom in Des Moines on Sunday, June 29 at 8 p.m. DSO recreates entire concerts from the Grateful Dead's past, playing the band's exact set list. Last time they were in town, Dark Star played the Dead's Detroit set list from November 1, 1977. Dark Star Orchestra has played well over 2200 shows, and they will soon eclipse the mark of 2318 shows that their idols played. Tickets for their Val Air show are $20 in advance through the Val Air box office and Ticketweb. Ticket prices will go up to $25 the day of the show.

Los Angeles rapper Kid Ink (see slideshow) will play Wooly's in Des Moines on Friday, June 20. Kid Ink, born Brian Todd Collins, saw his first studio album, 2012's Up & Away, climb all the way to #2 on the Billboard Rap chart and #3 on the R&B chart. His follow-up, this January's My Own Lane, made it all the way to #1 on the Rap chart, #2 on the R&B chart, and #3 on the Billboard 200. His sophomore effort also produced the platinum single "Show Me", which hit #2 on the Rap singles chart. Local rappers B. Well and Rob Sheppard will open the Des Moines show. Tickets for the 7 p.m. all ages event are $22 in advance and $25 at the door. They may be purchased at the Wooly's box office or online through Ticketfly.

Des Moines alt-rock/country band The Nadas will take the outdoor stage at Terrible's Lakeside Casino in Osceola on Thursday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m. The band released their latest album, Lovejoy Revival, last year. Tickets to the show are $10 for general admission or $20 for tiered seating. Tickets will go on sale on April 26 at 9 a.m. through the casino and Red Truck Tickets. This is a 21-plus event.
