Now certain that Angélique is responsible for the misfortunes plaguing his family, Barnabas is determined to kill her. After an attempt with poison flounders, he makes plans to stab Angélique in her bed.

Angélique surprises Barnabas by expecting his attack and warns him that, if he does not honor their marriage, Josette will die. Barnabas decides that Josette must leave Collinwood to escape the witch.

Victoria struggles to find a defense lawyer for her trial, but finds an ally in Peter Bradford, a law student working at the jail. Barnabas meets with Josette and persuades her to leave town.

A vengeful Barnabas finally gains revenge when he shoots Angélique. Thinking she is dying, she curses that all who love him shall die. Suddenly, a vampire bat appears and bites him on the throat.
