Metroid inspired 2.5D platformer set to release this month in NA and Western Europe.
Iceberg Interactive has confirmed its sci-fi survival platformer, Dark Matter to release mid-October, the company announced today. Slated to released for PC, OSX and Linux on Steam, DM exhibits a noticeable throwback to the “Metroidvania canon.”
“After Nuclear Dawn, we dedicated ourselves to a more personal project, a revival of the Metroidvania canon,” said Interwave Studios CEO, Michiel Beenen. Dark Matter may be a 2.5D survival horror title, but its roots are noticeably tied to the iconic Metroid franchise. The game’s star protagonist is even female - in case you needed more convincing.
Stretched across 14 non-linear levels, players will find themselves aboard a desolate spaceship. You’re tasked with navigating through narrow corridors, scavenging for supplies, while defending against an unknown alien infestation and unlocking the mystery behind the ship’s decimated state.
Be sure to check out our preview of Dark Matter and prepare for a classicly lineaged sci-fi survivor.
