It never hurts to be informed in advance: Dark Funeral and Inquisition are coming to town. If you enjoy black metal, these bands are from the softer and more heavy-metal-like side of the genre, but still quite good.
In particular, Dark Funeral is the creation of former Necrophobic riffmeister David Parland, who demonstrates able capacity to generate riffs that are both melodic and not candy-metal for people to think happy oblivious thoughts to. This is gnarly stuff. Since the EP, Dark Funeral has sounded more like Metallica's Ride the Lightning rendered as a melodic death metal band creating a black metal album. It's an easy transition for fans of Dissection.
Inquisition is similarly melodic but in more of an expansive way, as if punk bands made riffs out of twelve notes instead of two, and blasphemed instead of complaining about the total state (which is here anyway, and allows us to go to any rock-themed concerts we desire). Many in the remainder of the underground seem to like this band, but it's from the more listenable vein of the music, like Setherial crossed with Hellhammer.
Abigail Williams is from the new school and surely will provide entertainment to those who like such things.Gigan provide some form of hallucinatory audio soundscape, which should be the perfect intro to all the evil.
For those who enjoy the metal, it helps to be informed in advance. Once the holidays ramp up, including the absolute feast of metal performed live during that time, it will be a short transport into February, so be ready!
