The White House remains closed to tours today as President Obama strives to make the sequestration cuts as visible and as painful as possible. Republicans are condemning the president’s closing the home of America’s presidents as shameful theatrics to make any government spending cuts appear far worse that in actuality. One Republican, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.) went so far as to introduce a bill to stop Obama from going on golf trips any one of which, he says, would pay to keep the tours open for a year.

Republicans Speaker of the House John Boehner said that they were able to make other small cuts in inconsequential places to keep the Capitol Building tours operational. The White House, he said, is not the president’s residence by ownership, but as a tenant.
