Dark days in America, White House held hostage – Day 2

Today is the second day that President Obama has kept the White House closed to the American public. Having furloughed the volunteer staff that operates the tours in the presidential residence, the president says it is too expensive for the government to allow visitors and the people are being turned away from sightseeing in the home of America’s presidents. Obama has come under increasing pressure for closing the tours which cost only a few hundred thousand dollars a year to operate while expending billions of taxpayer dollars on pork barrel projects.

White House closed, Capitol open

On Capitol Hill, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) says that other cuts were made in order to retain the staff conducting tours of the capitol building. Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-Tx.) introduced a bill on the House floor to restrict the president from making golf trips. President Obama’s recent golf outing with Tiger Woods, he said, cost more than it does to fund the White House tours.
