Dark Chocolate for Your Valentine: A Healthy Choice

Roses are red, violets are lame . . ., blah, blah blah. Yes its Valentine's Day and unless you were wise enough to pick a fight with your beloved and arrange to be on a break, you're probably trying to find that perfect gift. Now this doesn't have to be a daunitng task and you don't have to purchase something she or he won't like, can't fit, or something that will make them question the level of committment in the relationship. Just play it safe. Get chocolate. Not any chocolate; get dark chocolate. Dark chocolate is the food of the gods from which it's name, "Theobrom Cacao" is derived. Dark chocolate has many benefits. Not only is it very tasty but some studies suggest dark chocolate is one of the top antioxidants. Also, in 2001the Association for Clinical Nutrition concluded that dark chocolate may favorably affect cardio-vascular disease risk status by modestly reducing the  LDL oxidation susceptibility, increasing serum total antioxidant capacity and HDL-cholesterol concentrations, and not adversely affecting prostaglandins (Wann, 2001).

Just think of the gratitude you'll receive when you present that Godiva box, filled with strawberries, dipped in rich, dark, delicious chocolate. You won't need to run down the health benefits, your sweetie won't really care. All you'll need to do is smile, indulge and say, "Baby, you're the greatest!"
